ah, the inevitable dramatic plot twist, as is our wont... here's mine! :>

[ Dedue isn't sure what he's more surprised about: the fact that Lana was able to effortlessly tackle him to the ground with such force (seriously, if the situation wasn't as dire as it was, he'd be impressed) or the fact that he had been so careless as to let his guard down when there were still bandits about. If Lana hadn't noticed the enemy archer when she did, who knows what would've happened next?

The way he is now, how could he ever expect to protect His Highness? Well, he'll address that question when they've reached safety. Right now, his primary concern is to protect Lana; he doesn't care too much what happens to him, but Lana still has something to live for... She still has a family -- a cousin, especially -- who would grieve if she were to perish. To spare them that heartache like he once (still feels) had felt, he has to get her safely to Remire. ]

...Lana. [ He spares a glance over his shoulder at the girl behind him. Something kind flickers in his eyes as he looks at her, before it quickly disappears as he returns his attention to the vicinity of the archer. ] Go.

[ He knows that someone like him is in no place to be giving orders, but the way he says it leaves no room for protest. ]

I...will meet up with you later.

[ And with axe in hand, he storms off in the direction that the arrow had come from, disappearing among the trees. ]
